English as a Second Language Program ESL
English Second Language Program
An English Language Learner (ELL) is a student who is not a proficient English speaker and is receiving instruction to develop his or her English language skills. ELL students can receive instruction in either English as a Second Language (ESL) or regular content area classes. ELL instruction within the Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success is guided by the district’s Special Population Department.
PSTEM Academy offers bilingual instruction to ELL students through state-certified teachers who help students acquire fluency in English. Instruction includes both spoken and written coursework in English. In addition, teachers include lessons that enhance appreciation of a student’s native heritage and culture, while exploring, understanding, and building bridges to new cultures.
